Not as such and music gear gone into storage for a bit. What I generally do is layer two supersaws, with one down an octave, dial in the SS detune, add chorus, bit of treble (if on a JP), basically pulverise the synth like a lot of the trance guys did to get the phattest stacked sound out of the machine!

@@RaveyStabs You think its possible to get the "Rank 1 - Superstrings" sound out of the v-synth? I regret selling my jp-8000 years ago and what wonder how close the v-synth can match it?

@@ScottLeeOfficialWebsite I think they're both close so I would think you could. I have that sound as a JP preset. The main difference is the FeedbackOSC (better on a JP), but that sound wouldn't use it. Be good if Roland Cloud emulated the JP. JP6K is quite a good emulation, little bit harsher, no chorus, but I tend to recreate/get close to most Roland choruses using UberMod.

Thanks, legend! That's such a great backstory, serendipity indeed. And many went on to sample Brazil, so that stroke of fortune is responsible for a lot of tracks. Orchestral music with its chord mixed instruments is such a good sampling source for stabs. Pre-internet days that sense of freedom and exploration a sampler gave you was truly mind blowing at the time.

@@kyma1999x you’ll often hear people talk about how rock solid the Atari St (remember that was industry standard), MPCs and even Amigas were when it came to MIDI and thats because they didn’t have the software layers to go through that modern DAWs do. They send signals directly to hardware ports in realtime at a low level and achieve often better accuracy. But it of course comes down to what anyone deems acceptable. Midi latency and jitter are real in modern DAWs if you want to measure it, that’s why solutions like Expert Sleepers USAMO exist. Audio is of course something different and driving sizeable MIDI rigs is largely a thing of the past.

@@RaveyStabs well digital performer with its own MTS midi time stamping or Pro Tools Hdx with MIDI I/O have no midi latency or jitter, every high end audio production since late 90s say things like britney spears stuff, or rnb/pop where there was tons of midi tracks where sequenced with those daw or something like LOGIC platinum with emagic midi interfaces (worse than motu or opcode but professional stuff).... It doesnt seem to me mainstream late 90s /2000s rnb pop from sony universal etc had midi latency, if a system would have those issues it would never been choosen to be the tool of the trade of a million dollar audio production. ....instead, personally I've never seen or heard of an audio engineer or arranger working for backstreet boys take that mariah carey celine dion etc etc using an amiga 1200 and trackers instead of digital performer or pro tools hd...why? ...maybe 'cause the issues that modern daw would have doesn't exist?

OH at 6:50 he literally sets up to do this lol. this is soo cool, one of these computers could have been a godsend for anyone making music from home at the time. the best drum machine you could afford also plays games and helps you type up homework!

The answer is Yes! Lots of plans to evolve. I’ve got fixed notes in the grid in dev version, just working out some workflows for next update.

I missed it first time round too but luckily picked it up before prices sky-rocketed several years back. The other week I tried looking for similar softsynths, the JP6K comes very close to the supersaw, but doesn't have chorus (I'd probably be able to replicate in Ubermod) but nothing seems to emulate the Feedback OSC (a big part of the synth for me for those hard sounds). A lot of synths like Diva I found too harsh, the synth is actually softer than you think. The Virus B is deep, it is probably 10x the engine of the JP even though smaller. The Osirus plugin is identical to the Virus B sound-wise, very impressive.

@@RaveyStabs The virus synth has a workaround. You can use the rom on a pc. Search youtube, I've come accross people doing it successfuly in videos and showing how....I'm trying to keep my environment as disconected from the puter as possible. I want to play with knobs and sliders, so I never tried.

Yay you're around! There's a bit of RM1x inspiration in this, like gate and its units per step.

This slots really well into Bitwig, just insert in the device rack before an instrument and you're away! (best DAW I tested for MIDI plugins)

Yes, I”m going to evolve this with fixed notes and maybe even make a separate MIDI tracker now I have made the engine, which I do have a rough prototype of with scrolling. I’ll do a drums video with this as its not a bad scratchpad. And yes I”m not a piano roll fan either, this works well as a replacement!

@@RaveyStabs Incredible - thank you so much for your quick response. Gonna buy this this week and can't wait to see how the project evolves. It'll completely revolutionise my workflow if I can 'track' again with the 'grown-up' DAWs - I really miss composing that way (sometimes fire up Jeskola Buzz to scratch my tracking itch!) EDIT: Bought but unfortunately Windows Defender is giving a false positive and immediately deleting it. Have reported the false positive to them and an hopefully updated defininitions will allow me to grab it soon :)

Just bought, annoyingly Windows Defender gives the installer a false positive for Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.B!ml and immediately deletes it - so can't try it at the moment... have just submitted it to the Microsoft site to get the false positive removed from their future definitions

@@mcbpete Have added another download (zipped VST3). This is a common issue apparently with the installer software I used, looking into a different one now.

@@mcbpete My thoughts exactly, I think the tracking workflow coupled with modern DAW arrangement and featureset is the best of both.
